My aim was to "three dimensionate" a traditional hanging reflector, so that it can be produced with the already existing methods for reflector manufacturing. The name of Axeli comes from the structure of the reflector: three flat elements form a three dimensional form when they are joined parallel to the x-, y and z-axis (axis = akseli in Finnish).
The idea of Axel can be adjusted to different forms. In my entry I presented three forms: a star-, flower and a circular shape for the reflector elements. In axel reflectors I have used the commonly used soft reflective material. It is durable and can stand extreme temperatures. The selected material is sturdy enough to hold the three dimensional form of Axel.

Axel -reflector is constructed from three similar elements. Each of the elements have specific slots which hold the pieces together with out any glue or tape. The reflector is attached with a string like a traditional reflector: with a safety pin, clip etc. The string can also be fixed with a loop in to a button hole. The advantage of a hanging reflector is that it is visible to all directions. In daylight the three dimensional Axel is a fun detail in clothing and at night a reflector.

Jury comment:

Axeli is a beautiful and simple solution made out of soft reflecting material. It can easily be put into production . This reflector can easily be produced in different colours and sizes. The three dimensional solution is new and fairly cheap to be manufactured. The product demands only clear instructions how to put the reflector together and a basic packaging . Attaching of the reflector still needs some thought.
